Livestock Marketing Association key in Securing Grants and Loans-CECM Erukudi

County Executive for Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries David Erukudi has urged leaders of Livestock Marketing Association (LMA) to coordinate their members to secure grants and marketing opportunities from government and private sectors.

Speaking today when he officiated a six-day capacity building workshop of the newly elected leadership of LMAs in Turkana South and Turkana East, CECM Erukudi called for innovation and integrity from the leaders for growth of the organisation.

He shared the department's goal to strengthen the organisation including establishment of livestock infrastructure and market linkages, and lauded USAID Nawiri program officials for taking lead in enhancing the livestock sector through trainings.

The training enabled the LMA leadership gain capacities for improved market access and trade for efficient, effective and sustainable management of livestock sale yards in the county.

County Chief Officer for Livestock Development Dr. Ezekiel Etelej emphasized on the need for mindset change by pastoralists over owning large herds, and instead offset livestock through markets to avoid losing all of them to disasters such as droughts and raids. 

County Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation Janerose Tioko called for gender inclusivity in LMA leadership while Fisheries Chief Officer Evans Lomodei called for transparency in LMAs operation to avoid conflicts.

Directors Benson Long'or (Veterinary Services) , John Eipa (Livestock Production), and Victor Lochee (Agriculture) as well as Deputy Director for Livestock Marketing Ernest Anzeze were present.
