Residents of Busia County have been urged to ensure that they achieve complete Covid 19 immunization.
Speaking to the Kenya News Agency, County Coordinator, expanded program on immunization Ms Juliet Kilima stressed complete immunization will offer higher coronavirus protection to residents.
Kilima therefore encouraged residents to visit the 113 immunization centres across the County to access the important health service.
The officer regretted that vaccination rates for Covid 19 had reduced from 2,000 per day to 20 per day adding, “This means there could be some myths and misconceptions like assuming that Covid 19 no longer exists."
She further regretted that there was laxity among locals in observing Covid 19 protocols especially hand washing and social distancing.
Kilima called on residents who are not vaccinated to come out in large numbers during the immunization week slated for next week.
Andrew Wesonga, a representative of Inter-religious council advised residents to embrace immunization against diseases such as polio, Ebola, and Marburg among others.
Wesonga noted that there has been a misconception especially among religious leaders that immunization is a sign of the end times.“Covid is here to stay, and I would like to advise the residents to be immunized against it,” he said.
According to statistics, in Busia County 99,000 residents have only taken the first coronavirus vaccine dose with 22,000 people having taken the second dose.
The forum was organized by Interreligious leaders in collaboration with Busia County government and UNICEF to sensitize residents on the immunization week set to begin next Tuesday with special focus on Covid 19 and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
