Man electrocuted while pruning trees in Likuyani

A 26 year old man was, Tuesday, electrocuted in Kakamega County, whilepruning trees at Mukunga village in Kongoni Sub-location within Likuyani Sub County.

According to eyewitnesses the deceased, Shadrack Simiyu, was working on
the last tree, when he cut a branch that fell on the power lines leading to his electrocution and consequently falling to the ground.

“I just saw fire flames on top of the trees followed by screams before the man dropped to the ground. On reaching the scene, I found him bleeding profusely from the nose.

With assistance from passersby we immediately tried to give him first aid but unfortunately, he died after a few minutes,” An eyewitness, who claimed to have cautioned the deceased against the job in vain recounted.

Kongoni Assistant Chief, Martha Juma, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the tragedy occurred after one of the residents hired the deceased to prune trees that were close to the power lines.

She said the body of the deceased is lying at the  Cherangany  Hospital mortuary in the neighboring Trans-Nzoia County.
