Love is in the air on the 'floor and corridors' of the National Assembly.
Wedding bells are ringing for Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Eric Wamumbi and the love of his life, Murang'a Woman Representative Betty Maina.
The two have been an 'item' since 2021.
They both have two children from their previous relationships.
Wamumbi's former wife, Catherine Nyambura mysteriously died in 2020.
Her body was discovered in Hohwe dam.
Wamumbi was serving as Konyu Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Nyeri County. He was questioned.
On the other hand, Betty Maina says her previous marriage failed because she got into the institution while still young and naive.
Appearing on Inooro TV on Monday, Wamumbi confirmed that he is staying together with Betty as they plan to make their relationship official.
He said Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be his chief negotiator while Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro will stand in as Betty's caretaker.
"We have now decided to live together as husband and wife and Mr Gachagua will be my chief negotiator when Mathira meets Murang'a for the takeover of her daughter," said MP Wamumbi.
He is a first term Mathira legislature. He was endorsed by Gachagua ahead of the August 2022 polls to succeded him.
Gachagua did not defend the MP seat, after William Ruto nominated him his presidential running mate.
It will be the first time in history of Kenya's Parliament for MPs to get married.
"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. That is what my sister and brother Hon Betty N Maina and Hon Eric Wamumbi MP Mathira are experiencing," said Laikipia Women Representative Jane Kagiri.
She wished them all the best.
