A section of leaders in Narok County have condemned the plans by opposition leader Raila Odinga to resume calls for mass action countrywide to push for both political and economic review in the country.

The leaders led by Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu, Narok Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei and Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno said the opposition leader was not genuine by calling for fresh demonstrations since no dialogue has taken place saying it was illogical to make a conclusion of returning to the streets.

Ntutu said the demonstrations were affecting tourism in the country saying Narok County was the most hit as it depends mostly on tourism to raise local revenue.

“If Mr. Odinga really loves the Maasai people, he should never call for demonstrations because they are affecting the tourism sector. We in Narok depend on tourism to raise our local revenue,” said Ntutu.

The Narok governor lauded Narok people for not participating in the demonstrations asking them to take advantage of the ongoing rains and cheap fertilizer to plant larger chunks of land.

Tonkei on her part said the government had accepted holding dialogue with the opposition leaders but wondered why they were threatening to start demonstrations again.

“We have started sensing that the goal of Mr. Odinga is to have a handshake with President William Ruto so that he can get a share of the government, which we will not agree to,” she said.

The women representative asked the opposition to stop confusing the country by calling for dialogue and at the same time calling for demonstrations.

Their sentiments were echoed by Emurua Dikirr MP who urged the Azimio brigade to give a chance to the dialoguing teams before making decisions of going back to the streets, adding that the current administration is stable and will deliver services to the residents.

“We call upon the clergy to pray for this country because we see the opposition does not wish the country well. We cannot have dialogue and at the same time with people on the streets demonstrating,” he said.

They spoke at Tabernacle of Praise church at Majengo estate after the church service on Sunday.
