A government official from Lugari Sub County has asked parents to fully support their children to boost their performance in this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment examinations (KPSEA).

Mbagara Assistant Chief Joseline Juma said learners need support and an environment conducive to their studies to post exemplary grades.

Juma appealed on Saturday at Munge area in Mautuma location during the burial of slain businessman Brian Mulama also attended by Lumakanda ward representative Bernard Bokanda.

“On Friday I was tasked to go and look for several candidates who didn’t turn up for rehearsal. Surprisingly I found some of them sitting with their parents who seemingly didn’t care,” she said.

She disclosed that there are five KCPE candidates in one of the schools in her sub-location who have gone missing but they are doing everything to locate them and ensure they report to school on Monday.

Bokanda reiterated Juma’s sentiments saying parents should play their role and ensure their children excel in school.

“Let all stakeholders including parents work as a team rather than leaving the responsibility to take care of the learners to the government and teachers,” he appealed.

“Parents, let us provide the requirements. Provide a geometric set, ruler, and a calculator. Juma said, urging parents to give their children all they require in school.

She reminded parents that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination is set to take a long time hence they ought to make follow-ups on their children all the time.

“If you have a candidate, try and wake up very early in the morning and prepare them even if it means escorting them to school for the first time so that they can feel they have parents. Let us ensure our children sit for all the examination papers and they all transit to the next level,” she stated.

Juma regretted that although examinations will kick off officially on Monday candidates in her sub- location have not been going to school.

She said: “The KCSE has already started while the KCPE and KPSEA will kick off on Monday. Parents, let us ensure the children who registered for the respective examination turn up.”

KCPE and KPSEA examinations will be done simultaneously from Monday to Wednesday.
