Machakos Deputy Governor Mr. Francis Mwangangi has asked the Lower Eastern Uniformed Disciplined Service Officers to form productive support groups to help each other in overcoming life’s challenges.
The Deputy Governor who was speaking during the 2023 Joint prayer and thanksgiving for Lower Eastern Uniformed Disciplined Service Officers at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Machakos Town reminded them that the support groups will help improve their mood and sense of optimism.
Mwangangi said that the support groups are crucial to the uniformed service officers because it will help them hold each other accountable in their line of work since the nature of their work requires a lot of counselling.
“Whether you are seeking support about job, depression, anxiety or mental health issues, attending a support group can be a valuable step towards that,” added the DG.
He emphasized that groups can serve as a support network and a sounding board, because regularly speaking and listening to others helps one put their own issues in a positive perspective.
The Deputy Governor additionally noted that support groups may offer innovative ideas on how to take care of one self, manage stress, combat fatigue and feel mentally and physically stronger.
“A problem half discussed is a problem half solved. Let's ensure there’s a conversation amongst ourselves in all levels of service. Through sharing experiences, one can offer support and encouragement,” added Mwangangi.
Speaking at the same event, Machakos County Commissioner Ms. Josephine Ouko urged the uniformed officers to be thankful to God that they get a chance to serve their country and should do their work diligently.
Ouko reminded them that their work is complicated and full of challenges since they have their high and low days and should be thankful to be alive and in good health.
Those who attended the function included officers from the National Police Service, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Prison Service, Administration Police, Kenya Wildlife Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Youth Service
