Man killed in Oyugis town

Police in Rachuonyo South Sub County are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly killed his friend over a disagreement during a cards game.

The diseased identified as Geoffrey Odhiambo, 28, was stabbed by his friend before he bled to death.

Rachuonyo South Sub County Police Commander Lilies Wachira said police were in hot pursuit of the suspect who disappeared after the incident.

She said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect differed with his playmates over the modalities of playing the game of cards. 

The police boss said the suspect wanted his playmates to play the cards for betting purposes with the winner getting some money.

But his colleagues insisted to continue playing the game for entertainment without any financial award.

Their responses annoyed the suspect before he pounced on Odhiambo with a knife.

“He stabbed Odhiambo on the head, leading to profuse bleeding,” Wachira said.

Odhiambo was rushed to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital but his condition worsened and was transferred to Kisii Level Five Hospital where he died.

A group of rowdy youth from Oyugis town who were baying for the suspect’s blood raided his home in East Kamagak Location and torched his house.

Wachira said they were carrying out investigations ahead of prosecution once the suspect is apprehended.

The police boss urged residents not to take the law into their hands over the matter.

“I urge residents to bring information about the suspect to police,” She added.
