Manchester United book FA final slot

By Peter Ochieng

Manchester United booked FA Cup final slot on Sunday evening, as English Premier League (EPL) rivals Brighton missed out.

The Red Devils beat Brighton 7-6 on post match penalties after the second semi final match ended 0-0 in normal and extra time, at Wembley Stadium.

Solly March fired his spot-kick over the crossbar, before an unlikely hero in the frame of defender Victor Lindelof converted to win it for United.

In his post match reaction, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag applauded his players for bouncing back seamlessly, after being dumped out of the Europa League by Spanish side, Sevilla on Thursday night.

Sevilla won 3-0 for a spot in the semis.

"On Thursday I saw a team I didn't recognise but today we went back to usual. I could see determination and resilience. We fought for every yard and competed in every battle. We had good chances," Ten Hag told BBC Radio One.

On Victor Lindelof scoring the winning penalty, he said, "He is quite cool when it comes to penalties and he's quite cool in general. I thought Victor and Luke Shaw played brilliantly. They had great co-operation with Casemiro."

United will play against rivals and neighbours Manchester City in the final on June 03, 2023.

City breezed past Sheffield United 3-0 on Saturday to storm the final.

Manchester City are in the hunt for a treble, seeking to win the League, FA and Champions League titles this season.

United remain the only English side to win a treble, a feat achieved back in 1999.
