Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i on Friday, April 1, 2022, declared parts of Laikipia County as a disturbed area.
The CS issued a statement immediately after the National Security Council (NSC) held a meeting and reviewed the security situation in parts of the county.
The NSC noted that the ongoing security operation has been successful in stopping banditry incursions and in restoring normalcy in a majority of the areas of Laikipia.
However, Matiang'i noted that bandits lurking within the environs of the Laikipia Nature Conservancy and surrounding areas continue to wage armed attacks and other criminal activities on innocent Kenyans.

To cut off supply lines and flush out the criminals, the NSC issued the following directives:
i. The area around the Laikipia Nature Conservancy and its environs be, and is hereby declared, a Disturbed Area and therefore a Security Operation Zone;
ii. The airspace around the Laikipia Nature Conservancy and surrounding area be, and is hereby closed, for the duration of the operation to facilitate the operation;
iii. No aircraft or any airborne transportation equipment will be allowed into the airspace around Laikipia Nature Conservancy and surrounding environs without the express authority of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government;
iv. The directive will remain in force for 30 days.
