Concerning the Insecurity experienced in Marsabit County, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’I has cautioned the residents that the government will take a major action which is the only option remaining.
Speaking on Wednesday, the CS said that the government is ready to do what it takes to secure the region and the residents and by doing that, it will be forced to take stern action by applying maximum force.
He said no one should criticize the government for the action it is going to take in Marsabit County.
"We are left with only one option for Marsabit and no one should blame the government because of what we are going to do in Marsabit to secure that place," Matiang'i stated.
"All I can say without fear of contradiction; it is not going to be fun. We will apply the maximum force of fire and we will act decisively in the best interest of the innocent people in the county," he added.
He said that it is now time to save the locals from the suffering they go through which is caused by insecurity issues that have been recurring in the region due to irresponsible and reckless politicians who were inciting people along ethnic lines.
“The government may soon launch a special security operation in the county to end the ongoing inter-ethnic violence between the Gabra and Borana communities.”
“The things I have heard and collected from people in that county are not spoken anywhere else in this country. There is no part of Kenya where one group of people speaks about their neighbors the way they do in Marsabit, it actually reminds you of the situation in Rwanda,” said Dr Matiang’i.
Matiang’i said the violence was being fueled by reckless politicians who had refused to engage in peace talks to stop the violence.
Over the years, there have been frequent attacks between communities in Marsabit County where the loss of lives and wealth have been observed with the locals and church leaders calling upon the government to intervene.
