Mbadi opts out of Homabay gubernatorial race

By Judy Jerono Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairman John Mbadi has stepped down from Homa Bay gubernatorial race. Mbadi said his focus now is to put more effort into Raila Odinga’s presidential bid and to ensure Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secure many seats across the country. "I have today withdrawn my bid from the Homa Bay County gubernatorial race. I will therefore henceforth place more effort in the Azimio presidential bid and the nationwide bid to have ODM secure as many seats as possible," Mbadi said. In a statement, Mbadi who is also The Member of Parliament Suba South said that coming up with the decision was not easy and that he came to conclusion after having talks with the party officials on the same. The Orange Democratic Movement chairman, who also doubles as the Minority leader in the National Assembly, disclosed that, the decision he made was out of his unquestionable commitment to the party, the quest for national growth and stability and the support for his party leader. He however applauds Homabay electoral who supported him in his gubernatorial race "I, therefore, thank all my supporters and even those who were yet to support my bid for this far we've walked," he said. The remaining gubernatorial aspirants in the race in Homabay County are the Woman Representative, Gladys Wanga, the former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, former Kasipul Member of Parliament Oyugi Magwanga, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) secretary-general Akello Misori, Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata and businessman Sam Wakiaga. This comes after it was disclosed that the ODM party has decided to hand direct tickets to the most popular candidates rather than hold primaries ODM NEB Chairperson Catherine Mumma said that the issuance of the direct ticket was in accordance with rules 8 and 23 of the party’s primary and nomination rules of 2021.
