Gaturi Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mr. Gathee Wa Njeri has implored students in the area to work hard in academics to reverse the poor performance being recorded in the region.
Speaking at Kiharu Technical Training Institute in Kiambugi, Wa Njeri lamented the dismally low results being recorded by the public day schools in the area in national examinations.
“While issuing bursaries, I was shocked that out of over 3000 students from our day secondary schools, only less than 20 students had managed to score a C plus and above yet the government is committed to ensuring every Kenyan child has access to quality education regardless of their background,” he noted.
“Education is an equalizer and game changer in today’s ever-competitive world, so work hard so that you change your lives and uplift your society,” Wanjeri said, and urged all education stakeholders to play their part to promote good academic performance.
Wanjeri called on parents to support the good work being done by teachers by encouraging their children to take education seriously. “Parents, please support these learners, encourage and give them ample time to carry out their studies,” he implored.
The MCA also decried the rampant theft of animals, farm produce and substance abuse in the area. “People dealing in illicit brews and bhang are well known to you, so you have to help us by giving intelligent information to the authorities so that we can eradicate this menace and save this generation,” he observed adding: “Even the people stealing animals in this area are not strangers, you all know them.”
