Nominated Kiambu MCA Jacinta Bacha is working on a bill to make it mandatory for developers to ensure all new buildings in the County are disabled friendly.

The bill is currently in its initial stages and Bacha is lobbying her colleagues to support and ensure it passes once presented in the house.

Speaking during a registration exercise of over 200 PWDs in Gatuanyaga area, Thika East Sub County Saturday, the MCA said most of the buildings and government offices in the County are not disabled friendly, thus posing challenges for PWDs to seek services.

Bacha, who represents PWDs in Kiambu County Assembly said PWDs in the County have suffered in their movements to government offices as well as getting friendly residential areas.

"Once passed, all government offices in the County will be compelled to have ramps, lifts, special toilets and parking for easy accessibility, putting an end to the suffering that PWDs have been going through, " said Bacha.

She also called on MPs to come up with legislations that support PWDs, adding that the government should be strict in implementing policies that affect them.

She encouraged the PWDs to register in large numbers in order to benefit from opportunities that they were missing out on government programs.

Bibirioni ward MCA, Christopher Kamau, who had accompanied Bacha assured that he will support the bill to stand in solidarity with the PWDs.

Among the persons who were registered in the new exercise were Gatuanyaga primary school head teacher Bernard Njoroge and Julius Mungai, who asked Kenyans to end stigma against PWDs.

Petronilah Nguti, who has a disabled child, asked the government to release monthly stipends for the disabled to cushion them in these difficult economic times.
