The Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from 10 counties, the majority being from the Mount Kenya region, gathered in Murang’a County with the aim of discussing the pressing issues affecting their welfare, among other issues.

MCAs from Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo, Kiambu, and Nairobi counties gathered to address the leadership challenges and the need to forge a unified push for the development of their regions.

Among the major discussions was the endorsement of Professor Kithure Kindiki, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, to be the development champion of the region.

The ward representatives explained the reason why they endorsed CS Kindiki, stating that he has massive ability to manage their welfare agenda and coordinate them with the national government.

The MCAs mentioned the Ward Development Fund, pensions, financial autonomy for county assemblies, and taxation of motor vehicle reimbursements as critical issues, expressing their confidence in Prof. Kindiki to spearhead them.

According to the group of MCAs, Prof. Kindiki has agreed to address the matters and give them feedback within 30 days.

Jenaro Njamumo, the Kirinyaga County Deputy Speaker, who read the MCAs statement, stated that the region aims at providing equitable development.

For the Mount Kenya region to accrue the benefits of the government's development projects, Njamumo said they should ensure proper alignment with the national government.

"We have confidence in Professor Kindiki's competence, experience, and capacity to advance our region's development needs together with the interests of all other regions, resulting in a country that develops as a whole for the prosperity and benefit of all our citizens," said Njamumo.

The Ward Representatives expressed their support for the efforts of Members of Parliament from Mount Kenya, who are advocating for a united approach towards development. The absence, they noted, has hampered the ability to track development projects in an effective way.

The MCAs declared their support for the administration of President William Ruto and its commitment to executing equitable development across the nation.
