Don't dare an intellectual, Babu Owino tells Miguna
By Peter Ochieng
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino wants lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna to stop commenting on a criminal case concerning him.
The second term MP is battling misuse of a firearm charges, in relation to the shooting of Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve in January, 2020.
While testifying virtually from his bed on Thursday, the DJ said he did not see the MP shoot him at Club B in Nairobi.
His testimony prompted Miguna to claim that the DJ did not need to testify in the first place.
"This isn’t a case that requires DJ Evolve to testify. Babu would be convicted even if DJ Evolve was dead or incapable of speaking or comprehending what’s going on," the vocal advocate wrote on Twitter.
"But Kenya’s legal system is broken and rife with ineptness and corruption. DJ Evolve should have been under protection by the @ODPP_KE. There should have been a strict restraining order preventing Babu Owino from communicating with DJ Evolve - directly or independently - in order to preserve the intergrity of the system, evidence and witnesses."
In response, Owino said it dosen't matter what Miguna says.
"It doesn’t matter what Miguna Miguna is saying so long as the complainant is not complaining. Criminal matters are based on complaints not balderdash and hearsay."
"It’s sad how he calls himself an advocate but has never appeared in court to defend even himself. It’s sad that an advocate ain’t aware that alternative dispute resolution mechanisms exist. Don’t dare an intellectual," he added.
This week, the MP told the court that he did not shoot the DJ.
He said he has spent over Sh58 million on Evolve's upkeep, medical bills and buying him a house since the incident happened.
