In a press statement dated Tuesday, 19th September, 2023. The Media council of Kenya has strongly condemned the attack on Journalists covering a security operation in Machakos.

Journalists mike Ndunda of Kamba TV, Richard Muasya of Athiani FM and Boniface Mutisya of Mutongoi TV were attacked by unknown members of the public as they recorded a security raid on an illicit brew den conducted in Katine, Machakos County.

The three had been invited to cover the operation by area chief Francis Mulinge on Monday, 18th September, 2023.

MCK urged members of the public to protect the freedom of journalists and also reiterated on the vital role the media plays in informing the public.

"We wish to remind members of the public that freedom of press is a fundamental pillar of a democratic society, and journalists play a vital role in keeping the public informed by highlighting societal evils. It is essential that journalists can carry out their work without fear of violence and intimidation. "MCK stated.

MCK further reiterated that attack on Journalists not only violate their basic human rights but also undermine the principles of free speech and open discourse that are vital for a healthy society.
