LEAP Africa in collaboration with other stakeholders have today converged to discuss galvanizing Pan African public, social and private sector partnerships to promote youth-led action on the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Speaking during the forum, the DOW Africa public affairs leader and YALI Advisory board member Mumbi Kega noted that they intend to use science and innovation to create a sustainable future by preparing tomorrow’s work space.
“We prepare workshops by focusing on science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), enabling sustainable solutions and building inclusive opportunities,” Mumbi said.
She remarked that there are some major achievements made which have increased our relevance like employability and entrepreneurship, Education, Healthy lifestyle, social mobility and active citizenship.
She also highlighted how young people should create social enterprises because the forum will enable them to voice their concern and focus on the future.
“SDGs are inter connected therefore there is no diversity of problems in Africa, they all require similar solutions.”
The Child Fund African Regional Director Chege Ngugi voiced that they can achieve more due to their endless support from their partners, the network of partners in Africa.
“We can move ahead if we turn our energy to the youths and encourage them to embrace the efforts positively, “Chege said.
Chege urged the youth that they should not expect to be given the manual instead they should go for it and they should be the change of what they want to be or what they want to see.
“In Africa we aim at embracing continental free trade area by opening borders for youths to move across to look for jobs, spread Technology advertisement and practice advancement and practice that in any African countries freely.”
He later noted that the Child Fund is dedicated to building the capacity of children by mentoring children to grow into responsible youth who will be the leaders of tomorrow.
