The clergy in Migori County have condemned the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the rights of the National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC) to register.
Led by Bishop Esau Jobando, they said that they were saddened by the Supreme Court's decision to allow the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, transgender, and Queer Community (LGBTQ) rights to be formally recognised and registered as an organization.
Jobando noted that the biblical teachings do not recognize same-sex marriages and it was against the will of God to affirm that type of marriage.
He called upon the political leadership of the country to stand firm and reject any form of ungodly behaviour for posterity.
“We as members of the clergy from Migori County strongly oppose and condemn what the Supreme Court did. We are a God-fearing nation and any form of ungodly aspects being introduced in our nation will destroy the moral fabric of our society,” lamented Jobando.
The Supreme Court in its ruling noted that it would be unconstitutional to limit the right to associate through denial, stating that the State should not discriminate directly against any person on any ground, including sex.
On his part, Bishop John Adawo of Hallelujah Church urged the country's political leadership not to be lured by the affluent West into embracing same sex unions for monetary gains.
