Romania to explore opportunities in ICT and agriculture in Migori County

Romania Government will partner with Migori County to explore opportunities in Information Communication Technology (ICT), agriculture, education, and emergency services.
Speaking at the Migori County Official residents after hosting the Romania Ambassador Ms. Gentiana Serbu, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko said that his administration had the distinct honor of hosting the ambassador on a collaborative discussion in the sectors of Agriculture, ICT, education, and emergency response capacity building.
Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko who welcomed Ambassador Serbu, highlighed the country's potential in agriculture and the need for enhanced emergency response capabilities adding that the collaboration will spur economic development in the region.
During the visit, Ochilo expressed gratitude for the Romanian government's sponsorship of a learning tour that will see a group of delegations from Migori to Romania for beach making.
The focus areas discussed included Information Technology (IT), Waste Management, Emergency Administration, and Agriculture.
Ochilo emphasized the county's richness in fertile soil, favorable climate, and enthusiastic citizens as valuable assets for agricultural development and the Information Technology sector.
Ms. Gentiana Serbu commended Migori's agricultural potential and shared insights on Romania's success in agricultural production, education, and emergency administration.
Notably, the Ambassador elaborated on a significant agreement signed on December 2023, between European Union (EU) and Kenya. In November last year, the visiting President of Romania signed an MOU with the Kenyan government on the sectors of environment, agriculture, and diplomacy.
She explained that the groundbreaking pact will ensure that the county can export its products to Romania without facing taxation hurdles, fostering economic growth.
The Romanian Ambassador also underscored the paramount importance of education, stating it as a crucial asset in shaping the future of any country’s foundation and workforce.
She added that the sentiments in agriculture, ICT, and education resonate with the shared commitment to developing the country's capabilities in alignment with Romania's expertise.
Serbu also noted that the collaborative spirit between Romania and Migori County signals a promising future, emphasizing sustainable agriculture, advanced ICT practices, and efficient emergency response mechanisms as entities that can spur economic growth.
“As both entities unite in this endeavor, the partnership is poised to contribute significantly to the growth and prosperity of Migori County and Kenya at large", Serbu said.
