A total of 252 learners from Migori County who sat for their 2023 KCPE exam have benefited from the Elimu Scholarship Programme.

The 138 girls and 114 boys will see their education tuition catered for in the next four years in their respective schools, when they finally join Form one this month.

Migori County Director of Education Jacob Onyiego said that the selecting process was very competitive and done above board.

Onyiego said that the committee selection advisory board was well represented right from the local authorities, the Ministry of Education, the community, and the religious group adding that the scholarship was issued on a proposed scale of merit.

The beneficiaries will also receive some of the personal effects like shoes, transport, and other necessities that will support their education during their four-year stay.

The official acknowledged that some organisations had stepped in to support the Elimu Scholarship programme, while encouraging those who may wish and be willing to support the unsuccessful Elimu Scholarship applicants to do so to give hope to more learners.

He disclosed that 2,354 candidates in the County showed interest in the Elimu Scholarship, but due to limited resources and space, only 252 were selected.

Onyiego however, acknowledged that the Ministry of Education and its stakeholders were committed to ensuring 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school so as not to leave any learner behind.

A total of 43,137 KCPE candidates sat for exams in the County in 2023, from 815 exam centers in the 12 Sub-Counties of Migori Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko who officiated the award ceremony Thursday at Migori Boys High School wished all the beneficiaries the very best in their academic pursuits. Early this month, Equity Bank sponsored the 16 bright but needy students, who did their 2023 KCPE in the County under the Wings To Fly Scholarship Programme.
