Migori County Commissioner David Gitonga has urged the residents of Migori to be patriotic and to portray political tolerance to forge unity and harmony among the various communities of Migori.

Gitonga who led the Migori residents to celebrate this year’s Jamhuri Day at Migori Primary School in Suna West Sub County, said that it was only through patriotism and accommodating divergent political view point that the county can achieve peace and development.

“When there is political tolerance and peace a country is able to develop faster and in so doing improve the lives of its people,” he said. 

He encouraged the residents to always attend public ‘Barazas’ organized by the local administration to enable them to understand and be informed of what projects the government was implementing.

Gitonga added that the county and the national government have operationalized the County Health Promoters (CHP) to help address the health issues in the county. He called upon the residents to cooperate with the (CHP) to establish their health status to address their health concerns before they become chronic.

Gitonga also urged the Kuria community to shun Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to give a Kuria girl a decent life.

On education matters, Gitonga encouraged parents to collaborate with their local leaders and the national government to ensure all the 2023 candidates transition to their next level of education.

Migori County Secretary Samson Olima, who represented Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko in the event, acknowledged that the County in coordination with the national government has deployed 2,900 CHP across the 40 wards to help the county residents with health hygiene matters. He urged the local community to coordinate with the CHP to get the best health practices and preventive measures.

The Jamuhuri Day celebrations were also celebrated in all the 12 Sub Counties of Migori chaired by the respective Deputy County Commissioners.
