Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has vowed to fire any board member of the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) in his constituency asking desperate parents money in exchange for bursary forms.
This comes after parents decried exploitation from some of the bursary committee members who they say charge them not less Sh2000 to get the forms.
Junet who was speaking over the weekend at Ang’anga Primary School in God Jope Ward while distributing bursary forms for the next year’s term one school fees, promised to deal with anyone found involved in such illegal activity.
“Our bursary system is clear and no one should cheat parents. We have committees in all polling stations which are given the mandate to identify the needy from all corners of their jurisdictions. We expect them to do their job diligently and not in a manner that compromises the process,” said Junet.
The legislature warned that there shall be stiffer punishment to anyone found extorting those deserving parents by way of forcing them to pay for the forms and assisted through bribery.
The MP outlined that parliament has passed a bill that will see an increase in the bursary allocation from 30 per cent to 40 per cent from the total NG-CDF allocation.
“The President recently signed the bill that now allows us to increase the bursary allocations from NG-CDF funds. Starting next year, we will increase the number of forms per polling station from four to eight,” he noted.
The legislature announced that the allocation will increase from the current Sh30 million to Sh40millionn in the next financial year.
Concerning improvement of infrastructure in primary schools in the constituency, Junet said that he has tasked the constituency NG-CDF committee to ensure that each primary school receives an additional of four newly constructed classrooms.
The MP, in the recent past, has been on the receiving end from a faction of his constituents and other aspirants who accuse him of abandoning his constituents immediately after winning his seat in the previous elections.
However, Junet assured of his commitment to his constituents’ representation in parliament and that he is focused on the course to serving his constituents well.
He mentioned that during his tenure spanning over ten years as area MP, the constituency has seen roads being opened to remote areas among other development activities.
