Migori County together with CARE Kenya NGO has commissioned completed water projects worth Sh10 million in the semi-arid area of Nyatike Sub County.

The four completed water projects will serve 20,000 residents from North Kadem, Kanyasa and Kachieng wards in the expansive Nyatike constituency.

Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko said that the four projects were made possible with the joint funding of CARE Kenya and the Migori County Government to help address water storage in the semi-arid region.

Ochilo affirmed that the county will continue to seek partnerships with various organisations to ensure that the county residents access clean and ready water.

CARE Kenya NGO Director Ms. Leah Kaguara pointed out that water scarcity especially in semi-arid areas like Nyatike has been a burden for the majority of residents across the country.

She said that the residents tend to use a lot of little resources they have to look for water as well as consuming a lot of time that could be utilized in other productive activities.

Kaguara noted that the NGO will continue to help counties to fight water scarcity problems by improving water infrastructure to support the fight against water shortages in semi-arid and arid areas.

CARE Kenya has been working with communities in Kenya addressing health issues, water and sanitation and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

“Women are the most overburdened members of the family because they are the ones tasked with the search for the precious commodity. We as an organisation want to strengthen the community structure between men and women by bridging the gap and bringing development, and the surest way to achieve this is to ensure water access to help women venture into other productive activities like their men counterparts," said Kaguara.

Recently, the residents of Macalder in Nyatike Sub County benefited from a Sh. 5.3 million water project that was funded by the Turkish Embassy Religious Consulate to Kenya.
