Senate Clerk visits Turkana County ahead of House sittings in September

Senate Board of Management led by the Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyengenye on Friday toured Turkana County to assess preparedness ahead of the Senate sittings slated for September 25-29.
Nyengenye said the board was satisfied with the preparedness of the county to host the board.
A total of 250 people among them 67 senators and their technical teams from will attend the meeting in Lodwar.
"The sittings, in Turkana, the third in a series of Senate Mashinani sittings are not just for symbolism but complete senate sittings," said Nyengenye.
The first senate Mashinani sittings were held in Uasin Gishu in 2018 followed by Kitui County in 2019.
The Senate will hold the sittings at the time when the county will holding the annual Tourism and cultural festival dubbed Tobongulore.
"The meeting is a follow up to the first meeting held in July and we are excited that we shall pull off a successful senate Mashinani," said Nyengenye.
He said both Senate and County Assembly teams have been working to ensure a seamless Senate Mashinani meeting.
"The Senate sittings will provide an opportunity for the Senate to interact with the county assembly and the residents as well as see how devolution is working at local level," said the Senate Clerk.
Turkana County Assembly Clerk Linus Lokawa said the county was ready to host the Senate in September.
