Migori County in partnership with the national government has launched the Migori Aggregation and Industrial Park worth Sh 500 Million.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at Macalder-in Nyatike Constituency, Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria said that the industrial park will be able to employ 30,000 once operationalised.
Kuria said that the national government and the Migori County will each contribute Sh 250 million for the establishment of the project.
He disclosed that the project will be completed in the next seven months in order to bring economic development and value to the Migori residents.
"Migori County has economic activities like the fishing industry, Agricultural products like sweat potatoes, rice, and maize, the mining sector, and the sugar industry that will hugely benefit from the establishment of the Industrial park," noted Kuria.
Kuria noted that once completed the industrial park will encourage the local investors to invest in Migori County because of the enormous advantages the project will provide.
The CS also pointed out that Migori County was a gateway to Tanzania through the Isebania border and the recently launched commercial flights at Lichota Airstrip to Wilson Airport will be an added advantage to both local and international investors.
Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko said that apart from the fishing, agricultural, and mining sectors, the county was relooking at other productive agricultural activities like Palm oil to boost the agricultural sector in the county.
“We aim to ensure that Migori ventures into palm oil in at least 35 thousand acres to ensure we utilise the untapped edible oil markets in the country", affirmed Ochilo.
He explained that the industrial park also creates employment for the locals, add economic value both to farmers and the county, and increase the social economic activities of the county.
Ochilo called upon the local investors to come on board to ensure that they reap from the industrial park with the value chain addition as the main focus.
Ochilo also said that the partnership between the national and county governments in the developmental agenda was key in steering the economic growth of the Kenyan people.
Migori County is one of the 14 counties that have benefited from the Aggregation and Industrial Park in the country that aims to address employment opportunities as well as boost the economic standards in the country.
The Aggregation and Industrial park will act as a collection centre, sorting, degrading, and distribution of goods. It will also streamline logistics and supply chain operations, promote industrialisation and value chain addition as well as support small-scale businesses and reduce rural-urban migration.
