Miguna's message to Kenyan workers as World marks Labour Day
By Peter Ochieng
Kenyan workers are joining the rest of the world in marking Labour Day celebrations.
The day, marked each May 01 was set aside to celebrate the achievement of workers who toil to make economies run.
The day was derived from the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement.
In a message to workers on Labour Day, lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna called on them to fight for their rights.
"Happy Labour Day," started Miguna in a message on twitter.
He seemingly suggested that in Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU-K) Secretary General (SG) Francis Atwoli, Kenyan workers have no leader to fight for their rights.
"Fight for your rights. You have nothing to lose but your shackles!" added the vocal advocate.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Interior Dr. Raymond Omollo said labour will take Kenya to the top.
"With ambition, we can begin climbing the ladder of our dreams. But, it is labour alone that will see us get to the top. In everything we do and desire, we must put in the hard work," said the PS.
Labour Day advocates for eight hours of work, eight hours of recreation and eight hours of rest.
