Modern classrooms to be constructed at Kericho Township Primary

Kericho Township Primary School in Kericho East Sub-County will soon receive a facelift following the construction modern Classrooms worth Sh200 million.

 Speaking during a tour to the school, Ainamoi MP Amb Benjamin Langat announced that a faith based organisation Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha (Nishkam Foundation) had pledged to sponsor the modernisation of the old school founded during the pre-colonial days.

Teachers, parents and pupils were overjoyed to learn that the well-wishers were ready to start the project that will entail construction of 27 new classrooms in storey buildings including other essential school facilities to cater for hundreds of pupils in both primary and junior secondary levels.

 "Since the school has a huge piece of land, the sponsors have agreed to promote agricultural activities for food production that will greatly help the school," added Langat.

 According to the MP, the Nishkam Foundation will also modernise the playground into a modern arena that will have the capacity to host various sporting events and festivals in the near future.

 "I am glad to announce that the sponsor has also purposed to introduce a feeding programme that will ensure all pupils received a heavy balanced diet on a daily basis to enable them better concentrate in their school activities," said Langat.

Kericho Township Primary School is one of the oldest schools in the County dating way back in 1952 where a majority of Indian community in the region pursued their education.

Meanwhile, the MP who also toured the neighbouring Kericho Township Secondary School also issued a Sh 1.1 Million National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to the School for construction of a modern classroom.

The legislator promised to build two extra classrooms and a multi-purpose hall at the secondary school in days to come to facilitate efficient studies and extra-curricular activities by students in the school.

 "I will ensure that the school also gets a bus very soon for students to take easily take part in academic trips, sports and festivals," said Langat.

He urged the youth to enroll at the Kericho Technical Institute where they will be equipped with knowledge and various skills that will enable them start their own businesses and earn decent livelihoods.
