A challenge has been made for the government to actively invest in the fight against drug abuse in the coastal region.
Mombasa County Speaker Aharub Khatri said if the government turns a blind eye to the issue, the workforce and the nation's arbitrariness in the future may be threatened.
Speaking in Mombasa Khatri has criticized the government, saying that despite the illegal trafficking being well known, the government has failed to arrest and take legal action.
"The government we tell you that is the work we have provided for you, we do not tell you except we ask for favour,do your work know where this drugs comes from and until the man who uses it reaches him there is no reason why you will tell us except you do not know," said Khatri.
In addition, the Mombasa County Speaker has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to fulfill his promise to deal with the speculators contributing to the deterioration of the lives of young people in the coastal area.
"Deputy President, you come here to Mombasa we have seen you where you clean up, come here to Mombasa clean up as you said and if you come to Mombasa your Governor here will welcome you completely with two hands and we will welcome you to do," said the speaker.
He has warned those who are involved in drug trafficking to stop and vowed to deal with them strongly.
At the same time, Khatri has criticized leaders using narcotics as soon as politics seek political prominence.
He has claimed that politicians from the coastal region are aware where the drugs come from, its destination and where it is supplied.
On the other hand,Deputy Governor of Mombasa County Francis Thoya has insisted there is a need of having effective measures to be put across to deal with drug abuse.
Thoya vows to investigate what is causing young people to use drugs and work on the loopholes.
