Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has dismissed claims made by President Uhuru Kenyatta that his deputy William Ruto, had attempted to overthrow him.
Uhuru made the claims on Saturday during a meeting with about 3,000 elders from the Mount Kenya region.
The meeting has widely been reported on with pundits saying it was part of the President’s moves to reclaim control of the vote-rich region.
But even as the Jubilee party leader said the plot to impeach him was part of the reasons he fell out with DP Ruto, Moses Kuria says it was no big deal.

In a tweet, the Chama cha Kazi party leader suggested that if it was true Ruto plotted to impeach his boss, he deserved a promotion – based on the fact that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was elevated to the handshake partner despite his attempt to swear in himself as ‘The People’s President’.
“What's wrong with trying to overthrow a government? Raila tried it in open fields on January 30th 2018 at Uhuru Park and got promoted to my brother. Why not promote Ruto as well?,” Moses Kuria posted on his official Twitter handle.
A section of leaders has since questioned President Kenyatta's reasons for the fallout with Ruto. Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi recalled that the head of state had cited the reason for the handshake as uniting the country.
"Previously...H.E UHURU told US the handshake btw him & Hon Raila was "to bring peace & unite Kenyans"...And that his disagreement with Ruto was "because of early campaigns" Now he is saying: "Ruto conspired with Raila to remove me from office, I then snatched Raila from Ruto...," Ahmednassir opined.
Responding to the senior counsel, Kuria wondered why if the allegations are true, the Deputy President did not seize the opportunity and oust President Kenyatta.
The lawmaker argued that impeaching Kenyatta would have prevented the economic crisis in the country.
"Please take us slowly. We are still grieving trying to comprehend how Ruto missed such a golden opportunity to rid this country of all these problems we are going through," the Gatundu South MP stated.
Kuria, who is eying the Kiambu gubernatorial seat recently declared support for DP Ruto’s presidential bid under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Uhuru and Ruto are set to battle for the Mount Kenya votes, with the President hoping to deliver the votes to the ODM leader Raila Odinga whom he has endorsed as his preferred successor.
Raila will be vying for the country’s top seat on the Azimio la Umoja Coalition that brings together at least 30 parties – including, ODM, Jubilee, Narc Kenya, Wiper, and KANU.
DP Ruto on the other hand is banking on his development record and multiple allies from the region to get a fair share of the region, in hope, it will propel him to a win – despite his bosses’ rejection.
