ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife Mama Ida Odinga was on Saturday humiliated in Meru County after a hostile crowd heckled her during a Catholic Church Women’s event where she was the chief guest.
Mama Ida had just taken to stage when the crowd started heckling. She tried persuading the crowd to listen to her, but her appeals fell on deaf ears.
“I am the wife to the Rt Hon Raila Odinga... I am also a woman like you,” Mama Ida said amid boos from a section f the crowd.
Attempts by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and the events MC to calm the crowd down were also futile as they continued heckling.
In a tweet after the event, Mama Ida avoided addressing the drama, opting to focus on the religious angle of the event.

I have and will always hold onto faith that has remained a steady compass throughout my life,” she tweeted.
Reacting to the incident, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua noted that it was totally unacceptable, arguing that it must have been stage managed for political reasons.
She urged women to desist from being used by politicians and called upon Kenyans to be tolerant and welcoming to all leaders, despite their political inclination.
"What happened at the Meru CWA function was uncalled for especially because the women through their leadership must have invited Ida Odinga as their guest. Why invite a guest then heckle or boo them? Probably a stage-managed affair for the sole purpose of political zoning which is unacceptable.
"We must reject politics of intimidation and thuggery, let everyone market their ideas without let of hindrance. Women must refuse to be used . Listen to all and then cast your vote where you will,” Karua’s statement read in part.
