By Edith. O. Virginia What's does a successful career mean to you? Well, for many, it generally means accomplishing all the goals one sets out for themselves without the feeling of straining too much. Everything has core principles that guide you towards achieving what you've set for yourself. I wouldn't know much about what your dream career is or what you want to achieve in life but here's my truth, a list of the core principles of building a successful career 1. Kill the comparison We all achieve things at different timelines in life. Early in our careers, we tend to focus on comparisons, especially between our peers. We need to unlearn this natural habit of the human mind because it's dangerous. Though it's easier said than done, word of Advice, focus on what nourishes you, focus on what is within your control. Remember, comparisons are a dangerous trap. Learn to be Diverse An open mind is an armed weapon. The willingness to learn forces changes as parties embrace new information. Learning a craft, an art or a language puts you far ahead in line than people who are satisfied with their results at that moment. 3. Take responsibility All actions have consequences, and the sooner we accept the facts the better. By owning your mistakes, you learn faster. When starting out your career, you'll probably not do everything right. You'll make terrible decisions and mistakes which is very okay. What is not okay is repeating the mistake. 4. Be a yes buddy You may be starting your career early, maybe at 21, but at this energetic age, practice saying yes to everything. A yes puts you in uncomfortable situations professionally which mould your luck in different areas as you learn and grow through different opportunities. 5. Prioritize the experience over the salary A successful career foundation is built on experience more than an attractive salary. Think of it more like fair compensation and not monetary compensation. Think long term, build the strongest foundation of experience that will help you once you want to get on your own two feet. 6. Decentralize your pool of friends When your friend group is diverse, it is a real competitive advantage. A decentralized friends group would look something like; a wide range of experiences, novel perspectives of situations, different backgrounds and connections to other friends groups. Creating your growth tribe is key to building a successful career.
