Top governor quits politics after serving one term
Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti has dropped his bid for re-election and quit active politics over ill health.
Kuti who was expected to seek re-election in August 2022, has announced that he will take a back seat o politics to concentrate on improving his health status.
Speaking to Nation, the governor noted that he has been unwell since December 2021, adding that in order to ensure Isiolo County gets great leadership and effective service delivery, he has opted out to create room for another leader.
Governor Kuti has endorsed Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Abdi Guyo as his preferred successor.
Guyo had previously expressed interesting in Nairobi politics with reports indicating that he was eyeing the Embakasi Central parliamentary seat.
“I have consequently dropped my re-election quest. You see, time (to kick off campaigns) is running out and because I am leaving the political scene. We must bring in other leaders for continuity,” Kuti was quoted.

During his term as governor,Dr Kuti also served as Chair of the Council of Governors Committee on Health.
Prior to being elected governor,Dr Kuti had served as Isiolo Senator between 2013 and 2017. Before that, he had served as Isiolo North Member o Parliament for two terms. Cumulatively, he has been in active politics for two decades (twenty years).
Dr Kutiwas also been privilege to serve in former President Mwai Kibaki’s cabinet under different roles that include; Assistant Health Minister (2004 - 2005), Minister for Youth Affairs (2005) and finally Minister of Livestock (2008-2013).
