Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has termed a recent defection of Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku from the Jubilee party to ODM as an indication of a troubled Azimio la Umoja Coalition.
Cheruiyot, a vocal supporter of Deputy President William Ruto says it is telling that Lenku has moved to ODM, yet they are all the parties within the coalition that has endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate.
In a tweet, the senator noted that the recent development might be an indication that the ODM leader has realized that he is in a marriage with ‘seasoned fraudsters’.

The legislator also claimed that there was an attempt by the Jubilee party and its affiliates to confine ODM to within its Nyanza bedrock, while its affiliates field candidates in other regions.
“The Lenku Move to ODM is quite telling. Raila is realising late in the day that he is in a marriage underwritten by seasoned fraudsters. Why would they push for a Raila presidency n then limit ODM to Luo Nyanza only by sponsoring Village affiliates of Jubilee everywhere else?” he said in a tweet.
The Jubilee party joined the Azimio la Umoja Coalition alongside over 20 political parties.
There have, however, been fears among lieutenants within ODM that some parties might end up eating into their national popularity.
In Western Kenya for example, the Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K), has emerged as a strong competitor for the Orange party – within the coalition, as it has been the biggest beneficiary of a move by Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula joining hands with Deputy President William Ruto.
A section of leaders in DAP-K has suggested the western region should be left to them to field candidates.
The ODM party is also unlikely to field candidates in the Ukambani region with Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Alfre Mutua (Maendeleo Chap Chap), and Narc’s Charity Ngilu supporting Raila’s presidential bid.
