The impeachment motion against Murang'a County Assembly Speaker Johnson Mukuha has been unsuccessful.
Rwathi ward representative Kenneth Kamau, while tabling the notice motion said that the house had resolved to remove the Speaker due to allegations of misappropriation of funds, insubordination, nepotism, financial mismanagement, and violation of chapter 4 if the constitutions on bill of rights and chapter 6 on leadership and integrity, claiming Mukuha's general actions does not befit him to hold office.
However, Kamau’s motion calling for removal of the Speaker from office has been halted due to the withdrawal of signatures by the Assembly members, according to County Assembly clerk Kuria Thuita.
Deputy Speaker Moses Gachui clarified that the motion, which was abated after the withdrawal of signatures, does not meet the one-third signature requirement pursuant to standing order 64 (3), therefore the motion failed to meet the minimum threshold for debate.
