Teso South Member of Parliament Mary Emase has raised concerns over the spate of killings of boda boda operators within Busia County.
Speaking during the official launch of the government-subsidized fertilizer at Amukura Central on Friday, Emase said that eight boda doda riders have been killed in the past one month.
“Today I have received reports that four more boda boda riders have been killed and their motorbikes stolen,” she said.
She urged the County Commissioner and the security team to come up with a strategy to arrest the situation.
“I’m told the manner in which they are being killed is the same, so you can tell it could be a serial killer,” she said, adding that there is need to look into the matter.
Busia County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto urged the Sub County Security Committee to organize a meeting with leaders of the boda boda operators on Saturday to discuss how to deal with the criminal suspects.
This comes hardly a day after the boda boda operators led by their County chairman Boniface Okumu threatened to take the law into their hands after one of the riders was killed and his body dumped in a thicket in Burumba Estate on Thursday.
