MP Robert Mbui slams Ruto for undermining opposition

Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui has slammed Kenya Kwanza government for undermining the opposition.
Mbui said President William Ruto's intention was to weaken the opposition so as to avoid being criticized.
Speaking in Kathiani Constituency on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the MP claimed that Ruto lured Azimio leaders for them to support his agenda.
"The other day, I saw that the people who were elected were Azimio. When we voted for parliament, two or three were bought like peanuts," he said.
According to Mbui, Ruto was opposed by Azimio leaders when he wanted to pass any bill that did not deal with solving the issue of cost of living.
Mbui stated that Ruto handpicked Azimio members to make it easy for him to pass any bill.
He claimed that Azimio members were paid to join the Kenya Kwanza government.
"They were bought so that the Kenya Kwanza side should have the power to pass their bills and you have seen from 2023 to 2024," claimed Mbui.
Earlier, President Ruto defended his decision of nominating the ODM members to his Cabinet stating it is for the sake of the nation's development.
Ruto was praised by many Kenyans for creating a broad-based government that united the country.
Mbui emphasized that despite the fact that some Azimio members joined the government, the Azimio is still strong and will continue to criticize the government to ensure it is delivering to Kenyans.
"Don't think that if you have made friends with the rest of us it means that you will bring the Finance Bill to pass, even if you bring the Finance Bill, if it increases taxes we will reject it," he stated.
