MP urges Kenyans to stop sending him money as he celebrates birthday
By Peter Ochieng
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino is celebrating his 35th birthday.
According to Parliament.go.ke, Ongili was born on October 10, 1989. As a means of surprising him on his birthday, Kenyans who have his number decided to send him money to make the day a memorable one. By the time of going to press, Kenyans had sent him over Sh350,000.
“A big thank you to all Kenyans who are sending me Mpesa for my birthday today. We are at 370K so far. I suggest you stop please. Hiyo pesa wacha ikushikilie mahali (let that money help you somewhere) for I really feel what you are going through as a Kenyan. God bless you all,” he wrote in a post.
His followers wished him all the best as such:
Sultan Arap Lall Rono: You're a real patriot, you have a big heart. May God protect and guide you always.
Pst Lawrence Ndua Kahonoki: Happy birthday sir. People have started loving your stand, we are behind you. Continue fighting for Kenyans.
On Tuesday, he attracted eyebrows after failing to appear in the National Assembly during the debate and voting on the proposed removal from office by impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He later informed Kenyans that he was attending to some serious issues.
“How can I waste my precious whole day discussing Rigathi yet we have serious issues like Adani, new University funding model, SHIF, high cost of living, high taxation, unemployment among others. You’ll see me in parliament when these issues are presented but they will not bring them,” he shared.
“I was highly engaged with other important and urgent matters affecting my constituents. The speed with which Rigathi was impeached should be the same speed used to solve Kenyans challenges.”
Babu Owino is reportedly eyeing to unseat Nairobi governor, Johnson Sakaja in 2027.
