A section of leaders from the Mt. Kenya region has vowed to push for the increment of bursary allocation kitty through the NG-CDF and also ensure equity in its allocation and distribution.

The leaders observed that it was unfortunate that constituencies are allocated equal amounts of money, but noted that there were disparities in distribution due to populations and needs of the local people.

Led by Kipipiri Member of Parliament Wanjiku Muhia, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, and Senators Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu) and John Methu (Nyandarua) among a host of other leaders, they said they will continue to push for the One-man-one-vote-one-shilling method of allocation to ensure and enhance equity.

They reaffirmed their commitment to root for equitable distribution of revenue owing to the fact that the region is always discriminated against when it comes to sharing of resources despite being overpopulated.

“We are going to push for distribution of bursaries based on population. Some places get over Sh100,000 for each student, but in Mt. Kenya the best we get is Sh5000. We need to push for that motion so that our students can complete school without their parents getting worried over school fees,” said Senator Karungo.

The leaders said the region produces over 30 per cent of the national revenue, with the Members of Parliament present, insisting that the allocation of resources should henceforth be based on population.

They spoke at Wanjohi Day Secondary school in Kipipiri constituency in Nyandarua County during the launch of the bursary kitty for day scholars in the area worth Sh 48 million.

They noted that the kitty was meant to help the needy and bright children continue with education without interruptions.

According to the host Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, the NG-CDF will pay Sh. 2000 for all-day school students to ensure that no one is left out.

They at the same time called on the opposition leaders to look into how they will strengthen the opposition and also perform its duties to check on the government, instead of resulting in street demonstrations.

Senators Thang’wa and Methu said the Kenya Kwanza leadership will not give room for any power-sharing move.

They underscored the need to give the government time to deliver its pre-election pledges and also look at how to address critical challenges affecting the country.
