It was all joy and dance at Mtwapa Elite Primary School Shariani branch as candidates, teachers, and parents took to the streets to celebrate the school’s good performance in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results with two candidates scoring 400 marks and above.
Loyce Nyale, who was the top candidate with 414 marks, attributed her success to hard work, support from teachers and parents, and persistent prayer.
“I feel good, it’s nice to be the top student at the school. It has not been an easy journey, but the teachers really played an important role, not forgetting my family and friends who supported me with prayers. They all have a reason to celebrate now,” she said.
She further expressed her desire to join Alliance Girls High School for her secondary education and later pursue a career in medicine.
She was closely followed by Eliud Chiro who scored 407 marks and wishes to continue his education at Lenana School and in the future be an engineer.
Both teachers and parents expressed satisfaction with the results despite a drop in the school’s performance from last year, adding that there was a general drop in performance nationwide.
“Last year’s performance was better than this year’s, but we are still grateful for our candidates' success. We have bid goodbye to the 8-4-4 system in a special way and are optimistic that we will continue doing well in the CBC system of learning,” Joseph Ouma, the head teacher said.
Constance Kadzenga, Loyce’s mother encouraged parents to continue supporting their children in education stating that education is the key to success today. She added that both girls and boys should be equally given an opportunity to explore their academic journeys.
