Mudavadi stresses accountability and efficiency in key ministries

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has renewed the government's pledge to accountability, transparency, and efficiency in three critical ministries at the State House, Nairobi, where he presided over the performance contracting.

This ceremony was presided over by President William Samoei Ruto as part of renewing efforts to ensure effectiveness in the delivery of public services by Interior and National Administration, the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

In his address, Mudavadi described performance contracts as a crucial mechanism for ensuring the deliverance of ministries' mandates.

He highlighted the importance of measurable outcomes, saying public service delivery had to be in line with the government's development goals and the expectations of Kenyan citizens.

"Performance contracts are the necessary framework that ensures that Ministries effectively deliver on their mandates. Transparency, measurable results, and excellence cannot be compromised in public service delivery," Mudavadi said.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary called on the Ministry leadership to focus on the delivery of results that had impact and to institute strategies that ensured transformative development.

He emphasized that it would only be successful with a culture of accountability and a commitment to the government's vision for progress.

Present at the ceremony were key government officials and stakeholders, including Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, members of the diplomatic corps, Members of Parliament, and representatives of independent oversight authorities.

President Ruto, in his speech, said, "We intend to have efficient and open governments in all sectors and would support inter-ministerial coordination for the successful implementation of SDGs."

The inclusion of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs into the performance contract framework indicates the government's commitment to strengthening ties with the Kenyan diaspora, and expanding partnerships globally.

On the other hand, placing emphasis on the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage testifies to the commitment to preserving the national identity, while being oriented toward the promotion of inclusivity and cultural development.

Observers hailed the event, labeling it a step toward enforcing good governance and accountability.

As the government embarks on the implementation of these performance contracts, stakeholders are hopeful that the initiative shall bring real benefits to the people of Kenya, consequently assisting the ambitious development agenda of the country.
