Murang'a Senator says Mount Kenya MPs have not rebelled Finance Bill 2023
By Robert Mutasi
Murang'a Senator Joe Nyutu has refuted the claims circulating around that Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region have rejected The Finance Bill 2023.
The Senator emphasized that there is no any rejection instead they were views of some MPs towards the bill.
During an interview with Citizen Tv on Tuesday,Nyutu admitted that only a few MPs have given out their views which seemed to call for some changes to meet the interest of Mount Kenya.
According to Nyutu, the MPs just wanted to build more confidence in a way that people will be comfortable with.
He has explained that the government should focus on delivering more services rather than collecting revenue in the way Kenyans expected.
The Senate Member has clarified that leaders from Mount Kenya region will support the Finance Bill 2023.
"The only person that may think that the bill will not serve the interestS of Kenyans in Mount Kenya,is the Honorable Gathoni wa Muchomba,"he said.
He has further said Kenyans are having a hard time paying taxes due to the hardships they are going through.
Senator Nyutu has defended the Kenya Kwanza government that they have responsibilities to ensure every Kenyan gets services.
In order for the government to deliver good services,he said there must be sufficient funds to make them effective.
On the other hand the Senator has noted that borrowing loans abroad has contributed to huge burdens that the country is struggling to pay and so the Finance Bill is one solution to the burden.
“The Kenya Kwanza has a mandate to deliver, there are services to be offered,we need money we cannot continue borrowing,’Murang’a Senator said.
Nyutu has insisted that the aim of Finance Bill 2023 is to ensure the government is raising its revenue locally so as to avoid borrowing.
Yesterday,Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba during an interview with Inooro Tv, said is going to oppose the Finance Bill 2023 because it oppresses Kenyans.
She added that the bill will affect the prices of commodities to go up like fertilizers which will make farmers suffer.
