Safari Rally has cemented its place as a cornerstone of Kenya's cultural and economic landscape, Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.

Speaking during a briefing event for sponsors and partners on preparations for the 2025 World Rally Championship WRC Safari Rally, Murkomen highlighted the rally's significance beyond the sporting arena.

"The Safari Rally has transcended sport to become part of our national heritage and a major economic driver," he said. "Its return to the WRC calendar presented us with a unique platform to market our country to a global audience while giving a great fillip to local businesses."

Murkomen, however, assured that this coming 2025 event began its preparations earlier than all the other previous editions and promised an unparalleled experience both for the fans and participants.

Among the key areas of focus are enhancing fan experience, driver safety, and efficiency to cut costs.

Thanks to unwavering support from sponsors and partners, the Safari Rally has grown to become the most-watched rally in the WRC calendar, the CS noted.

He expressed gratitude for the collaboration, which he said would ensure a world-class event.

"Together, we will deliver an unforgettable experience for the drivers and fans next year," Murkomen assured.

The CS also encouraged Kenyans to take advantage of the economic opportunities availed by the rally.

From hospitality to local businesses, the event has indeed proved a major driver of economic activity in the regions it touches.

Murkomen also praised the various government agencies working hand in hand with the organizers to ensure the event is smooth and successful.

First held in 1953, the Safari Rally has evolved into a marquee event on the global motorsport calendar.

Its reintroduction to the WRC in 2021 after a 19-year hiatus marked a turning point for Kenyan motorsport, bringing with it a surge in tourism, global attention, and economic benefits.

With preparations for the 2025 edition gaining momentum, stakeholders are buoyant that the rally has the potential to showcase Kenya's natural beauty, culture, and resilience.

Murkomen's remarks also underscored the dual role of the rally in celebrating national pride and propelling economic growth.
