Mutahi Ngunyi: Uhuru brokered Ruto, Raila deal

Kenyans are back to their normal nation building activities, a day after Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga called off protests.
Some of Azimio strongholds such as Kisumu, Homabay, Siaya, Migori, Kibra and Mathare in Nairobi were the most affected by the twice per week protests.
Odinga called off the demos after President William Ruto, suggested they take a bi-partisan approach in Parliament, to settle some of his demands, which touch on among others, recruitment of IEBC's new chairperson and commissioners.
Taking to twitter after the ODM party boss called off the demos to give dialogue a chance, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi claimed former President Uhuru Kenyatta may have been instrumental in the Ruto, Odinga truce.
Additionally, Ngunyi asked the Head of State to keep his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua off the talks.
"Bravo President William Ruto. What you did by climbing down was statesmanship. Babaman responded by climbing down too. Whatever you do hereafter, keep Gachagua out of it. And I believe Uhuru Kenyatta brokered this deal," said the pundit.
However, a section of leaders in President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance have repeatedly accused the former President of funding the Azimio demos.
Before the Sunday truce, Gachagua was among leaders who maintained that there was no chance for dialogue between Ruto and Odinga.
However, he seemed to strike a reconciliatory tone after the demos were called off.
"Kenya is a country of the rule of law. Violence and destruction of property has no place in our country. It will never be allowed under the leadership of President William Samoei Ruto now or in future," stated the DP.
He added, "I salute Hon Raila Odinga for calling off demonstrations and violence and choosing to pursue his issues in Parliament in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Kenya. That is Statesmanship. As our President has stated, the Government remains committed to protecting life and property tomorrow, the next day, next week and the years to come."
Odinga said they reserve the right to call for demos again, should there be no meaningful talks going foward.
