Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has unveiled the third generation County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023-2027.

The plan will be implemented through five annual development plans with an estimated cost of Sh 92.3 billion raised from the national government's equitable share and grants, Own Source Revenue (OSR) and support by development partners.

During the launch ceremony on Friday, Mutula said the plan will transform the livelihoods of the people of Makueni by building a resilient economy for sustainable development.

“The Makueni CIDP III and Makueni County Statistical Abstract 2023 (CSA 2023) represents the hopes, aspirations of citizens and the commitment and desire of my administration to transform the livelihoods of the residents,” said Mutula during the launch of the documents at Makueni PWD centre, Wote on Thursday.

Mutula administration has prioritized improving infrastructure and road connectivity, revamping agricultural development and enhancing access to potable water.

 “The transport, infrastructure, public works and energy sector has the highest budget from Sh 92.3 billion funds and followed by agriculture and rural development sector and the water and sanitation, environment and natural resources sector at 27%, 22% and 16% respectively,” according to Makueni CIDP 2023-2027.

“In the five years, the county government will directly mobilize Sh 54 Billion to fund the various programmes in the CIDP III through the annual budget. The greatest contribution of the resources will be from the equitable share at 77%, OSR at 13%,” according to Makueni CIDP 2023-2027.

The CIDP III also indicates that private partnership, conditional allocations, loans and grants will contribute 10% fund of the projected revenue in the plan period.

Mutula said his administration will work closely with the national government, and development partners to benefit the people of Makueni.

“I will work together with the Government of Kenya and all the development partners to benefit the residents of Makueni according to the spirit of the constitution of Kenya 2010 that demands we work together,” added Mutula.

The CIDP plan is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2063, the Kenya Vision 2030 and its Fourth Medium-Term Plan, The Kenya Kwanza Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda and Makueni Vision 2025.

Mutula noted that the Makueni CSA 2023 will guide the county with data-driven insights that will form a bedrock of informed decision-making.

The launch ceremony was attended by Makueni Acting County Commissioner Moses Gicharu, a section of Members of the County Assembly and Speaker Douglas Mbilu.

Gicharu reiterated the government's commitment to in working collaboration with counties to transform the lives of citizens.

 “We are here to provide a conducive environment for the CIDP III to be actualized for the benefit of the residents of Makueni, our officers from the national government will work together with the county administration to actualize the vision of the plan,” said Gicharu.
