By Peter Ochieng
Results of the form one placement selection exercise which has been ongoing, will be released on Monday, 18th December, 2023.
Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education Ezekiel Ombaki Machogu, speaking during University of Nairobi’s 70th graduation ceremony said the event will be held at Lenana School, Nairobi.
The selection exercise was carried out between November 27th and the December 11th. Machogu assured stakeholders, among them learners and parents that his ministry has developed a fair and transparent system for form 1 placement.
This year’s top candidate in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) was Michael Warutere, from Riara Springs Academy, Nairobi. He scored 428 marks. He is expected to join a national school. All candidates who scored 400 marks and above will be selected to join national schools.
The country currently has slightly over 100 national schools, spread across the country. 8,523 candidates scored above 400 marks in this year’s KCPE exams.
Those who scored between 300 to 399 marks were 352,782, while the number of those who scored 200 to 299 marks were 658,278. 383,025 scored between 100 to 199 marks, while those who scored between 0 to 99 marks were 2,060 candidates.
1,406,557 million candidates sat for this year’s exams.
CS Machogu earlier stated that all of them will join form one in 2024, under the government’s 100 percent transition policy.
The 2023 cohort was the last to sit the KCPE exams, as the ministry phases out the 8-4-4 curriculum for the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).
