Mwai Kibaki Hospital Othaya to be elevated as an Independent Government Parastatal

President William Ruto has announced that Othaya’s Mwai Kibaki Hospital, an annex of Kenyatta National Hospital, will be upgraded into a parastatal with its own board and independent budget.

After meeting a section of Members of Parliament from Nyeri County at State House on Wednesday, the head of state said that the move is part of the government’s broader push for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) which is set to begin next month.

Ruto noted that the elevation of the hospital would ensure it is fully equipped to meet the healthcare demands of the region While boosting it's capacity to serve as a key healthcare facility in Nyeri County.

With Nyeri MPs, the President discussed the government's ongoing development initiatives within the county, among them, the construction of roads, establishment of modern stadia, expansion of fresh produce markets, and implementation of crucial water programmes aimed at enhancing the region's infrastructure and improving the livelihoods of residents.

The Hospital is expected to be gazetted as a Parastatal in the Official Government's Gazette.
