Narok County Executive Member in charge of Water, Energy, Environment and Natural resources Kiplangat Rotich has called on residents to take advantage of the ongoing rains to plant trees on their farms.

Rotich said many tree species do well in rainy seasons hence challenged farmers to plant trees as they cultivate their farms to achieve the 15 billion tree cover in ten years as directed by President Dr. William Ruto.

He spoke at his office where he said the county government under the leadership of Governor Patrick Ntutu will start tree nurseries in all the 30 wards where all farmers can access tree seedlings for planting in their farms.

The CEC reiterated that the current administration was in the process of fencing all public institutions like schools, hospitals and market places to plant trees in a protected area.

“We are very serious about planting trees. We want to plant trees in all the public land to be among the leading counties that will plant many trees in the country,” he said.

At the same time, Rotich revealed that the county had successfully constructed 24 boreholes around the county and 21 of them had been tested and found to have clean water suitable for human consumption.

Rotich further disclosed that according to the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), the county had prioritized digging 38 boreholes in five years and added that to date over 70 per cent complete.

“Many wards like Loita, Narok township and Keekonyokie that had prioritized the construction of boreholes in their respective wards are now enjoying the clean water project. We are hoping to complete the 38 boreholes before the end of the year,” he added.

At the same time, the executive member called on residents to harvest water during this rainy season to use during the dry spells.

“It is time we invest in harvesting rain water so that when the rains stop, we can have enough water for domestic consumption,” he advised.
