Tharaka Nithi County government has handed over a three hectare land title deed to National Cereals Produce Board (NCPB) to accommodate its depot.
Tharaka Nithi county governor Muthomi Njuki who presided over the handing over near Chuka Referral Hospital said that it was important for the county to have NCPB depot as an agricultural region. “Tharaka-Nithi cannot be an agricultural County without a NCPB depot,” he said.
The governor hoped that the stores to be constructed would accommodate two season’s fertilizer and all the other products found within the board.
Njuki assured that his government would offer full cooperation to the board in case of any problems.
On his part, Chairman NCPB Samuel Mbaera explained that Chuka is easily accessed by the majority of residents hence they found it ideal for the construction of the depot.
“The reason why we choose Chuka to be the host for the Depot is because of quick consumption of fertilizer and easy access to all people in the County,” he said.
Mbaera said that the depot would have storage and cleaning facilities, and a post-harvest and resistance system to lengthen the durability of products like green grams.
They hoped that the project would be completed within two years.
