Needy students in Migori County get Sh2.5 million NGAAF Bursary Fund.

A total 334 bright but needy students in Migori County have benefited from the National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) bursary.

A cheque worth Sh2, 539, 882.40 was released through the office of Migori County Woman Representative, Ms. Fatuma Mohammed to cater for the students' fees balances in various schools across the Country.

Speaking during the release of the money, Ms. Mohammed challenged the students who benefited from the bursary support to focus seriously on their studies and avoid involving in activities that could make them drop out of school.

She threatened to cancel cheques for students who will stray away from expected moral values explaining that she will never support those with wayward characters.

The woman representative cautioned young girls against engaging in early sexual escapades, drug and substance abuse and, lately LGBTQ trends.

“Should I hear any rumour that you have turned to alcohol and drug abuse, I will cancel all the cheques because it is government’s money that should not fund drunkards,” she warned.

Fatuma also called for the unity of Migori leaders to work together to ensure that the County thrives and progresses well both in education and economically.

She criticized those fueling violence against elected leaders noting that it is not a development-oriented move.

“As Migori County residents we need to come together and work with our elected leaders. It is shameful that we are castigating leaders on performance yet they have not even received funds for development from the national government,” she said.

On demonstrations called by the opposition, she warned that people should be cautious of those destroying properties and urged youths to maintain peace as they push for what they believe in.

Speaking at the same function, Migori County Commissioner Mr David Gitonga who was among the invited quests, urged Migori residents to ignore the planned demonstrations as 2022 elections politics were over with the declaration of President Ruto as the winner. He instead urged Kenyan to focus on development agendas.

Mr Gitonga reminded the residents of the government's stand against violence cautioning that those found on the wrong side shall face the full force of the law.

He lauded the Woman representative for giving out the bursary cheque openly to the beneficiaries as it ensured transparency and encouraged students to be disciplined and work hard in school to be better people in future.

Mr Gitonga also reminded Migori residents to make use of the heavy rains being witnessed in the region by planting more trees to increase forest cover in the county.

“It is rainy season and as you look around, we don’t have enough trees in our environment. Let us make good use of the rains and plant more trees,” said the commissioner.
